A 55-year-old gardener from Siparia was granted $150,000 bail when he appeared before a San Fernando Magistrate charged with sexually touching a 13-year-old girl. The accused was also ordered to have no communication with the child and to report to the nearest police station once per week. The following is a press release from the TTPS:
A 55-year-old man was granted $150,000 bail with a surety and ordered to have no communication with 13-year-old girl after appearing yesterday before the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of sexual touching of a child. The accused, a gardener, who resides in Woodland, Siparia, was also instructed to report to his nearest police station once per week as part of his bail conditions.
According to a police report, on September 2nd 2021, a 12-year-old girl was seated in a parked motor vehicle when a man allegedly touched her on her shoulder and left breast. The incident was reported to the Southern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) following which WPC Hamilton took lead of the investigation.
After the enquiry, the suspect was apprehended and charged with one count of sexual touching of a child on September 14th. Investigations into the report were headed by W/Superintendent of Police (Ag), Claire Guy-Alleyne and supported by Insp (Ag) Khan of the Southern CPU. The matter was heard by Magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh.
