A 37-year-old Cocorite man will appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today, charged with cruelty to a child.
Police say the man was arrested on November 9th and charged yesterday by WPC Joseph of the Western Division Child Protection Unit (CPU).
In a media release the TTPS says, according to the 14-year-old boy, he and his siblings were dropped off at the accused’s home to spend some time.
While at the house, the victim’s six-year-old sister was attacked by the man’s dog, causing him to chase it away.
The boy told police that the man allegedly became upset and scolded him.
The boy answered the man, following which the accused allegedly choked the boy and dealt several blows about his body with an iron bar.
The boy was knocked unconscious.
The accused reportedly became fearful and took the child to seek medical treatment at the St. James Health Facility, following which doctors contacted the CPU.
WPC Joseph visited the scene and conducted investigations, which led to the man being arrested and charged.
