A 33-year-old man will appear virtually before the Siparia Magistrates’ Court today to answer seven counts of sexual penetration of a girl, 13.
The man, who lives in Rousillac, was arrested on Saturday by officers of the Child Protection Unit (CPU), South Western Division.
According to reports, around 3 pm on February 24, 2020, the victim who was 13 years at the time, ran away from her home and went to the home of the accused in Rousillac.
While at the home of the accused, she was lying on a bed in a room at the back of the house, when the accused began kissing her on her mouth and neck.
He then had sexual intercourse with her.
About 15 minutes after, the accused again had sexual intercourse with her. The girl also reported that the accused had sexual intercourse with her on five other occasions between February 25 and February 29, 2020.
On Saturday May 8, acting on information received, acting Sgt Taylor went to the home of the accused in company with other police officers, where he observed both the victim and the accused lying on a bed on the western side of the house.
The accused was then arrested and taken to the Oropouche Police Station where he was interviewed and later charged with seven counts of sexual penetration. The girl was taken into the care and custody of the CPU.
Marijuana, phones, chargers
hidden in juice boxes in prison
Officers of the Arouca Police Station seized 1.99 kilogrammes of marijuana, mobile phones, chargers, and a quantity of bamboo wrapping paper from the Golden Grove Prison on Saturday.
The items were concealed in one litre juice boxes and stashed inside one of the rice bins.
A police release said around 8 10 am on Saturday, a prisons officer, while supervising the preparation of lunch at the facility, inspected one of the rice bins and found a transparent plastic bag containing five one-litre juice boxes. An inspection was carried out on one of the boxes where one charger and a quantity of what appeared to be marijuana wrapped in clear tape was found.
The remaining four boxes were searched.
Three of them contained marijuana while the fourth contained six mobile phones, four chargers as well as the bamboo wrapping paper.
Also found during the search were 25 packs of cigarettes separated into five bundles each containing fives packs of cigarettes.
The items were taken to the Arouca Police Station where Sgt Denoon will continue enquiries.
TTPS: No Sgt Hamilton at Cyber
and Social Media Unit
The Police Service is once again advising members of the public that there is no Sergeant Hamilton attached to the Cyber and Social Media Unit.
The TTPS said yesterday that a number of people have reported that an individual purporting to be a member of the Cyber and Social Media Unit is requesting individuals to divulge personal information to assist in investigations.
The TTPS said This is not in keeping with the Standard Operating Procedures of this unit and this matter is being thoroughly investigated.
Members of the public are asked to desist from sharing information about their email accounts, social media accounts, and passwords.
Anyone with information on the individual in question is asked to contact the nearest police station, or make a report via the TTPS App or the TTPS website.
Palo Seco Man charged with murder
A 23-year-old man from Palo Seco is scheduled to appear before a Siparia Magistrate today charged with murdering a man in his community.
On Friday, Ashmeer Beharry, of School Road, Palo Seco, was charged with murdering Jeromy Rampersad on April 23.
According to a release from the TTPS Rampersad, 29, of Arena Village, Erin, was last seen alive on that date.
His family reported him missing two days later.
The release stated that Beharry was questioned in relation to Rampersad’s disappearance. He allegedly claimed that he stabbed Rampersad after they got into an argument and took investigators to the location where Rampersad’s burnt remains were found.
Beharry was charged after homicide detectives received advice from acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honore-Paul.
The investigation was conducted by Inspector Maharaj, Sgt Jones and Elvin, and PC Ali of the Region Three Homicide Bureau of Investigations.
Cops prope St Joseph murder
Police are investigating the murder of a 29-year-old from St Joseph who was killed early yesterday morning.
According to reports, around 1 am, residents of Guaratta Hill, Upper Maracas/St Joseph heard a volley of gunshots in the community.
The residents waited until morning to search the area and when they did they found Jerome “Black Bean” Boodram lying on the porch of an abandoned house in the area.
Boodram appeared to have been shot in his chest and head.
He was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer (DMO).
An autopsy is expected to be performed on Boodram’s body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James today
