A 51-year-old man charged with two counts of child cruelty was granted $50,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Aden Stroude at the Siparia Magistrates’ Court. He is expected to reappear before a Magistrate April 5th.
According to a police report, in August 2020, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly burned on both hands with lighted paper. Then on Monday 4th January 2021, the girl was allegedly dealt several blows on her legs after she was accused of stealing $10 from a neighbour.
WPC Rangoo of the Child Protection Unit in the South Western Division conducted an investigation into the matter, which resulted in the arrest and subsequent charge of the 51-year-old unemployed man. Investigations were supervised by W/Supt. (Ag.) Claire Guy-Alleyne, ASP (Ag.) Roberts, Insp. Knutt, and W/Sgt.Charles.
