Man charged with Chuniesingh murders

A 31-year-old man yesterday appeared before an Arima magistrate charged with the triple murder which occurred in Arima on January 6. Nathaniel Ellis, 31, of Pinto Road, Arima, was charged on Monday night for the murders of Damien Chuniesingh, 39, Polly Chuniesingh, 31, both of Getwell Avenue, Pinto Road, Arima and their uncle, Canadian national, Deoraj Chuniesingh, 55, following following instructions given by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.

The bodies of the three victims were found at Damien’s home on January 6 by a relative.

Autopsies conducted on all three victims revealed that they were strangled to death. Police said jewelry and cash were subsequently found to be missing from the house.

Ellis was arrested by officers of the Pinto Police Station during an exercise on January 8.

Investigations were supervised by ASP Sean Dhilpaul and Sgt Hosein, both of Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2. Charges were laid by Sgt Hosein.
