A Tunapuna man was denied bail after appearing virtually before the Arima Magistrates’ Court today. He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.

The following is a press release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on the incident.

“Shastri Ramnarase, a 27-year-old man of Ramlogan Drive, El Dorado Road, Tunapuna, appeared virtually before Senior Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay of the Arima Magistrates’ Court today. He was denied bail and remanded into custody.

It was reported that around 4pm yesterday, a man secured his white Mazda 323 parked in his yard and went to sleep.

Upon waking, he discovered his vehicle missing. The suspect, who is a past tenant later came to the man’s home. The man became suspicious and contacted the Police.

Officers of the Malabar Police Station responded and interviewed the suspect relative to the missing vehicle.

The man confessed to taking the vehicle. He was conveyed to the Arima Police Station and handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

PC Nicholas investigated the matter and further interviewed him.

Based on information received, officers of the Arima CID proceeded to Production Drive, Sea Lots, where they located a white Mazda 323, bearing the same registration number of the vehicle that was reported stolen.

The vehicle was then taken to the Arima Police Station.

PC Nicholas charged Ramnarase for the offence of larceny of a motor vehicle.

The suspect is expected to reappear before the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18th August, 2021.”
