Man chopped to death in Arima

One man was murdered and another wounded in an incident in Arima on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, around 5.45 pm officers from the Arima Police Station responded to a distress call from a man who claimed he and his friend had been attacked at the Heights of Guanapo.

When the officers arrived at the location they found the caller, who had a chop wound to his hand.

The man then carried the officers to a location a short distance away where they found his friend lying face-down with chop wounds to his back and head. Police officers also found a burnt-out car at the location.

The caller, who was later identified as 36-year-old Antonio Mungroo, was taken to hospital for treatment and remained warded yesterday.

Police were expected to interview Mungroo to determine the circumstances of the attack on them.

His friend, identified as 29-year-old Keron Francois, of Lewis Lane, Plantation Road, Valencia, was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer (DMO).

An autopsy will be performed on his body at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, today.

Investigations are continuing.
