A 25-year-old man died after he reportedly was shot by police officers during a police-involved shooting in Arouca, on Tuesday morning.

The police officers were executing a search warrant at a house at the time of the shooting incident.

According to a police report, at about 1.30 am, officers from Northern Division Task Force-Central went to a house at Windy Hill in Arouca, to execute a search warrant for firearms and ammunition.

On arrival, officers entered a bedroom of the wooden structure and the suspect reportedly opened fire on them.

The police officers discharged 17 rounds of ammunition in the direction of the suspect.

The suspect, who was shot multiple times, was taken to the Arima Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police recovered and seized one Glock pistol with 16 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, as well as a bullet proof vest marked with a regimental number.

Investigations are continuing.
