The man who was fatally shot after he was allegedly caught stealing plaintains from a garden in Princes Town has been identified as Fabien McDonald.

Another man, Akeem Kingsdale, 26, of Marabella, who was allegedly at the scene, has been charged with praedial larceny of plantains.

The incident took place on October 16 at Borde Narve, Princes Town. McDonald and another man were confronted by a 68-year-old farmer who was armed with his shotgun. One of the men allegedly pointed a gun at the farmer who got scared and fired a shot.

McDonald, 31, of Borde Narve died, another man escaped and a third man was arrested.

Kingsdale appeared virtually before Princes Town magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine on Tuesday.

The charge alleged that he stole plantains valued $4,000 from the farmer. He pleaded not guilty.

Kingsdale’s attorney Dane Hall made an application for bail.

However, prosecutor Sgt Shazeed Mohammed objected to bail stating that he allegedly committed the offence while on bail for a 2019 burglary charge.

However, the magistrate granted him $25,000 bail with approval. The matter was adjourned to November 17.
