A 32-year-old man has been granted $5,000 own bail after appearing before a Scarborough Magistrate today to answer to the charge of assault.
Kern Duncan, an electrician of Bethal, Tobago, pleaded not guilty to the charge at a virtual hearing in the Scarborough 2nd Magistrates’ Court on June 9th. The matter was postponed to July 31st.
According to police reports, Duncan was arrested by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU), Tobago Division, after the victim reported to police that on the afternoon of June 9th she was allegedly assaulted by the accused during an argument at his home.
PC Sandy of the GDVU Tobago Division immediately launched an investigation into the report which resulted in the arrest of Duncan on June 8th. The GBVU underscores that all reports made will be thoroughly investigated to bring all perpetrators to justice. All victims of gender-based crimes are strongly urged to report all cases to ensure that police can provide the necessary support.
