A 37-year-old man was murdered in Erin yesterday, Wednesday January 5th, and police suspect his killing may have been drug related.  Jentle Jade Dates (alias Porkie) of Erin Beach Road was shot multiple times at the Erin Beach Fishing Depot.

According to a police report, around 5:20 pm, Dates was sitting and liming with a group of friends on the tray of his white Kia K2700 pickup truck.  A silver AD wagon with a black bumper and carrying three occupants arrived about ten minutes later and parked some five feet away from Dates’ vehicle.

The men seated in the front passenger seat and back seat of the wagon then came with guns and fired at Dates and his friends. Dates fell off the tray as his friends scampered to safety. The gunmen then went up to Dates as he lay on the ground and pumped several bullets into his body. The gunmen then returned to the wagon which sped off.

Dates’ friends picked him up and placed him in the tray of the van. He was taken to the Siparia Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.  The body was then transported to the mortuary at the San Fernando General Hospital pending a COVID test and postmortem at the Forensic Science Centre.

Police recovered over 15 nine-millimetre and 15 7.62 spent shells, as well as several projectiles from the crime scene. Officers of the Erin Police Station and Homicide Bureau led by ASP Ramdeo and Sgt James visited and processed the scene.

PC Griffith is investigating.
