Man jailed for robbery, assault

For robbing and beating a woman in Princes Town last week, a 24-year-old man has been jailed for 15 months.

Kadeen Mc Kain, of Springhill, Toradale, has six previous convictions for robbery.

He admitted to robbing the woman when he appeared via video conference before Princes Town Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine.

Giving a synopsis of what transpired, prosecutor Reagan Ramanan said around 1.25 pm on August 26 the 24-year-old Williamsville woman was at the car park area of JDs Mall, High Street, Princes Town when Mc Kain walked up to her.

He announced a hold-up and demanded that she hand over her belongings. He also dealt her several blows on her body. He escaped with her handbag containing her personal documents and $300, as well as a gold chain, two gold pendants and her cellphone. He then ran off.

PC Dennis conducted inquires and on Tuesday, Mc Kain was arrested along High Street, Princes Town.

While being questioned by the police at the Princes Town Police Station, he admitted, “Boss, I really snatch the woman handbag.”

The police executed a search warrant at his home on Wednesday but none of the stolen items was recovered.

PC Dennis subsequently charged him with robbery with violence.
