Police believe the murder of a 50-year-old man in Enterprise, Chaguanas, on Wednesday night is linked to a prison inmate.

According to a police report, at about 7 pm Kevin Mohammed was standing near a shop at the corner of Johnson Trace and Enterprise Street when he was shot several times. Mohammed, police said, operated a fruit stall.

Residents heard the gunshots and saw Mohammed lying on the road and took him to the Chaguanas District Health Facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A close family friend told Guardian Media that Mohammed’s relatives are very distraught. The friend said the family had lost a second relative and believes that it is a “message being sent to the family” in connection with a relative who is currently incarcerated.

“His (Mohammed’s) relative is in prison and they killed the brother of that relative and now him so it seems as though they are aiming at the family members,” the close friend said.

“Right now, the family is very distraught and their heads hot trying to deal with this situation,” he added.
