Man sustains burn injuries while picking breadfruit

A man from Bon Accord reportedly has sustained third and fourth degree burns, after coming into contact with a live T&TEC electricity cable while picking breadfruit.

A man from Bon Accord reportedly has sustained third and fourth degree burns, after coming into contact with a live T&TEC electricity cable while picking breadfruit.

According to a police report, at about 3 pm, the 57-year-old man of Village Street, Bon Accord, was at another residence at Gaskin Bay Road, Bon Accord, to pick breadfruit.

The man is said to have climbed a breadfruit tree in the yard and while using an iron rod to pick breadfruit, the rod reportedly came into contact with a T&TEC electrical cable, resulting in his being electrocuted.  He reportedly fell from the tree and hit his head on a nearby galvanize structure, before landing on the ground.

People who were present at the time rendered assistance. The E.H.S. was called to the scene and the victim was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital where he was treated for third and fourth degree burns to his body.

He was expected to be warded and to undergo emergency surgery.
