Tunapuna Police are actively searching for a male suspect, after they seized a firearm and a quantity of ammunition, following a foot pursuit in the Tunapuna district yesterday.

The suspect is a 28-year-old male of mixed descent, is said to be five feet eight inches tall, slim built, light brown in complexion and last seen sporting a corn-row hairstyle.

According to official police reports, Northern Division Task Force West (NDTFW) officers supervised by Sgt (Ag) La Pierre and Cpl (Ag) Forde were conducting a crime suppression exercise on Tuesday 26th May, 2020, in the First Trace, Maingot Road, Tunapuna district, when they received information about a man armed with a gun.

The officers then mounted an operation in which they observed a man standing in front of a house located at a track alongside the western side of the roadway.

When officers attempted to engage the suspect, he pulled out a green firearm and proceeded to evade them.

A chase ensued which resulted in the seizure of a Glock 17 Pistol, which contained ten rounds of 9 mm ammunition. The firearm fell from the suspect during the pursuit.

PC Codrington of the NDTFW is leading inquiries into the weapon seizure, and an arrest is said to be imminent in this matter.
