Marabella man held with 100 rounds of assorted ammo, gun

One man was arrested and over 100 rounds of ammunition and a firearm were recovered in Marabella during a police exercise on Thursday.

Conducted by the Southern Division Task Force on Thursday, the exercise was carried out between 3 pm and 6 pm in the Pleasantville and Marabella areas. A 27-year-old man of New City Avenue, Marabella, was arrested and charged with possession of a Glock 17 pistol with two magazines, 50 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, 52 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one round of 7.62 ammo, and one 12 gauge cartridges.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Winchester, Supt Jackman, Supt Carty, ASP Ramdass, and Insp Phillip and supervised by Sgt Joseph, Sgt Charles, Cpl Charles, and included other officers, including Cpl Bahadur and PC Bissoon.

Earlier in the day between 10.30 am to 3.30 pm an exercise was also conducted by the Southern Division of the Municipal Police Service in the Marabella and Mon Repos areas.

Nineteen fixed penalty notices were issued for various traffic infractions, four face mask tickets issued, 40 stop and search forms completed, and nine vehicles including one motor-cycle impounded. Five persons including four foreign nationals were also detained, 200 safety brochures were distributed and 330 vehicles were stopped and searched.

That exercise was coordinated by Snr Supts Cecil Santana and Curtis Belford and included officers of the San Fernando, Point Fortin, Siparia, Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo, Princes Town, Mayaro/Rio Claro police, as well as the Municipal Police Academy.
