A 60-year-old man from Maraval has pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl on nine occasions in 2012.
Ainsley Letren, of Paramin Hill, Maraval, was allowed to plead guilty to the sexual offences when he appeared virtually before High Court Judge Hayden St Clair-Douglas, yesterday morning.
Letren was also allowed to plead guilty to arson and common assault charges arising out of a separate incident, in which a woman and her three children were doused with gasoline and their house set on fire.
Letren was not immediately sentenced by St Clair-Douglas, who adjourned the case to June 8, when his attorneys and State prosecutors are expected to present submissions on the appropriate sentences including him being placed on the sex offenders’ registry.
According to the evidence in the case, Letren was accused of attacking the teenager on nine occasions between August and November 2012, with the indecent assaults taking the form of inappropriate touching of the victim’s breasts.
The arson and common assault charges arose out of an incident on November 29, 2012.
Letren was allegedly having an argument with a woman and doused her and her three children with gasoline. He then set their home on fire. The woman and her children escaped unscathed but Letren was reportedly injured in the fire and had to be hospitalised before being charged.
Letren is being represented by Tonya Thomas of the Public Defenders Department.
