A 48-year-old market vendor was arrested for possession of marijuana, after he was stopped and searched during a roadblock police exercise in Biche, on Wednesday.

The road check duty was conducted in front of the Biche Police Station between the hours of 6 pm and 10 pm, on Wednesday June 16th.

Police said at about 7:50 pm, a white Nissan Frontier motor vehicle was stopped. A search of the vehicle was carried out which led to the discovery of 10 packets containing marijuana with a weight of 12 lbs, and an estimated street value of $156,000.  The drugs were found concealed in a space between the engine and grille of the vehicle.

The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was arrested and taken to the station where he was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The police exercise was coordinated by Ag Snr Supt Chandool, Asp Jankie and Inspector Ragbir, supervised by Sgt Mahabir and Ag W/Cpl Denoon, and included other officers of the Biche Police Station.
