Following the sale of its limited-edition re-usable pink bags to promote cancer awareness, Massy Stores (Trinidad) has confirmed that they have donated $140,576.00 to the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society TTCS. Ten thousand dollars (TT$10,000.00) of the amount was donated by Massy Distribution (Trinidad).
“Firstly, we want to thank our customers whose overwhelming response created an opportunity for us to not only give back to the TTCS but also to support the continued awareness and importance of routine screening and early detection for breast cancer and to show solidarity with those in the fight against this disease,” said Roxane de Freitas, CEO, Massy Stores.
“We started out with a target of $50,000 and our caring and generous customers far exceeded our expectations, allowing us to almost triple the targeted figure. Even in challenging times, we were able to make a difference, together. Breast Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Trinidad and Tobago according to WHO 2018 statistics and we aim to play our part in the eradication of this statistic,” she added.
At the cheque handover, Chairman of the TTCS, Dr. Asante Le Blanc spoke about how the financial contribution will be invested, “We will be directing part of these funds to the purchase of an ultrasound machine which forms part of our breast cancer screening suite, to aid in the screening and early detection of breast cancer. This was a tough year for the country, for the community of citizens affected by cancer, and of course for the TTCS and we wish to express our deepest thanks to Massy Stores for partnering with us as we provide critical, cost-effective, medical support for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
The limited-edition re-usable pink bags were sold for $10.00 per bag from October 1 – 31, 2020. For each bag sold, $4.00 was donated to the TTCS.
