A 37-year-old mechanic of Valencia was scheduled to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate yesterday to answer to four counts of sexual penetration of a minor.

The man was arrested and charged by PC Mathison of the Eastern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) Thursday.

According to the police, the victim’s mother told them that at 11.40 pm on Wednesday, August 26, she awoke from sleep and found that her daughter was missing from their home.

The mother was told that the girl was seen at a neighbour’s house some 400 metres away.

The mother said that when she arrived at the house, she called out to a man, who is known to the family, enquiring about her daughter’s whereabouts.

The woman reported to police her 14-year-old daughter was later discovered in a bedroom of the house.

According to the police, the mother confronted both the man and her daughter who told her they were liming and talking.

A report was subsequently made to police after the teenager told her mother that she and the man had allegedly been engaging in sexual activities.

PC Mathison investigated the report and a medical examination was done on the minor.

The suspect, who had gone into hiding, was later arrested by police at the Valencia Police Post on Thursday and the charges laid against him.
