A 37-year-old mechanic of Valencia will appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today, to answer to four counts of sexual penetration of a minor.

An official release from the TTPS reports that the man was arrested and charged by PC Mathison of the Eastern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) yesterday, Thursday 8th October 2020, following an investigation surrounding a report of the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

According to the victim’s mother, at 11:40 pm on Wednesday 26th August 2020, she awoke from sleep and found that her daughter was missing from their home. The mother was told that the girl was seen at a neighbour’s house some 400 meters away.

The mother reported to the police that when she arrived at the house, she called out to a man who is known to the family, enquiring about the whereabouts of her daughter. The teenager was later discovered to be in a bedroom of the house.

The mother confronted both the man and her daughter, who told her that they were liming and talking.

A report was subsequently made to police after the teenager confided to her mother the following day that she and the man allegedly had been engaging in sexual activities.

PC Mathison investigated the report and a medical examination was done on the minor.

The suspect, who had gone into hiding, was later arrested by police at the Valencia Police Post on Thursday 8th October 2020. He was charged with four counts of sexual penetration of a minor.

He is expected to answer to the charges today when he appears before a Sangre Grande Magistrate.

The investigation was jointly headed by W/Superintendent George, W/Insp Bain-Keller and Sgt Holder.
