Men killed during Wallerfield robbery identified

Two men who were killed during an attempted robbery in Wallerfield on Monday night have been identified.

Police said the men are Tyler Williams, 24, of La Horquetta and Glen Craigwell, 41, of Petit Valley.

According to a statement from the TTPS, on Monday evening officers were contacted about a fatal shooting at a business place located along Wallerfield Road, Arima.

When officers from several police units arrived, they saw the two men dead with a firearm close by. A third suspect allegedly escaped in a waiting vehicle.

Police were told that the proprietor of a Mini Mart at Tractor Pool Road was conducting business when three armed men entered and announced a hold up. However, an off-duty police officer, the proprietor and a customer, all licensed firearms users allegedly drew their weapons on the men resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspects subsequently attempted to escape, however, two of them collapsed outside the establishment where they succumbed to their injuries.

The TTPS confirmed that the off-duty police officer sustained gunshot injuries to one of his legs and was taken to the Arima General Hospital where he underwent medical treatment and was subsequently discharged.

The third suspect remains at large.

Investigations are ongoing.
