A Riverine Flood Alert/ORANGE Level has been activated for Trinidad by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), as the island continues to experience continuous rain and occasionally heavy showers and thundershowers, today, Wednesday August 18th.

The Met Service activated the alert at 2:00 pm.  It will remain in effect until 6:00 pm, tomorrow, Thursday August 19th.

According to the bulletin issued by the TTMS:

“River levels are critical along the Caroni River with lower banks at spilling level. There continue to be reports of smaller water courses being filled with flooding in low lying areas. Other major rivers are contained at this time and are being closely monitored.”

Persons living in areas along waterways and low-lying areas in Trinidad are advised to monitor weather conditions and river levels before venturing out, and especially, to avoid areas with flood waters.

In addition to following the instructions of government officials, the public also is reminded to monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures, including emergency supplies of food and water.

All citizens are encouraged to continue monitoring weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt, and www.odpm.gov.tt.
