Minister of Communication Donna Cox in celebration of International Nurses Day thanked the nation’s nurses for rising to the occasion and putting themselves at risk every day.
In a press release issued this evening Minister Cox took the opportunity to encourage all health workers to continue steadfastly with due diligence and commitment.
The following is a press release from the Minister of Communication:
In this time of COVID-19 where all essential workers are required to put forward their best, the Nurses of our country have risen to the occasion by putting themselves at risk every day to keep us safe. As the world celebrates International Nurses Day on May 12, the theme put forward for 2020 ‘Nursing the World to Health’ accurately reflects what has been happening over the past few months. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) chose this theme in 2019 not knowing what would happen in the future, but this is exactly what our Nurses have had to do in our twin-island Republic. The date chosen to celebrate International Nurses Day is the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, arguably the most famous nurse to have ever lived. As the Minister of Communications, I take this opportunity to encourage all our health workers to continue steadfastly with due diligence and commitment. Each one of you is needed to play your part so that we all can get through this pandemic where the virus has infected over four (4) million people throughout the world. The good news is that the majority of those affected have been able to recover and resume their normal lives. Our country has been able to keep our numbers down to a manageable figure with the measures that have been put in place since March. To those who are serving in public and private sectors, we express our gratitude for the sacrifice you are making to meet the needs of your patients and indeed the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Thank you for your service.
