Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, said health officials have not received any official report of people becoming paralyzed after taking a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Minister gave this response to questions by the media today about claims of adverse reactions to taking COVID-19 vaccines. The claims were made by three families at a press conference hosted yesterday by the National Trade Union Center (NATUC).
Minister Deyalsingh said he did not want to “downplay” the families’ claims but said without proper doctor certificates he could not confirm or deny what actually happened.
The Minister indicated that the ministry is willing to look into the cases.
Meanwhile, epidemiologist, Dr Avery Hinds, also rejected the claim by NATUC general secretary, Michael Annisette, that there has been a surge in COVID-19 cases since the safe zone initiative was launched last October.
Dr Hinds noted that there was no scientific evidence to prove this is true. He said safe zones would not work if people do not follow the public health protocols of sanitizing, wearing masks and social distancing.
