Both Minister of National Security Stuart Young MP and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Senator Dr. Amery Browne, have met with High Commissioner of Canada to Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Kumar Gupta, concerning the return of Trinidad and Tobago nationals employed on agricultural farms in Canada.

The meeting took place yesterday, Tuesday 15 December 2020, at the Ministry of National Security’s Head Office at Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.

According to an official statement from the National Security Ministry, “meeting discussions centred on a collaborative framework for repatriation” of this country’s nationals.

The release said Minister Young recommitted to working with High Commissioner Gupta and the Government of Canada to expedite the safe return of this country’s nationals, including the facilitation of special flights and quarantine arrangements.

High Commissioner Gupta gave assurances the Government of Canada will work with Canadian farm owners to ensure the well-being of Trinidad and Tobago nationals while they are in Canada.

Both ministers and His Excellency also discussed opportunities to collaborate on prison reform and other areas of mutual interest.

In addition, all parties reiterated their commitment to furtherance of the long standing bilateral relationship between both T&T and Canada, and pledged to continue to work together for the safety and security of all.
