Ministry: Import licences for foreign used vehicles expire on Dec 31st

The Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Trade Licence Unit (TLU), has issued a reminder that Friday 31 December 2021, is the expiry date for licences to import used right hand drive motor vehicles.

In an advisory issued today, the TLU says licences will not be revalidated for vehicles arriving in-country after this date.

The following is the full text of the reminder issued by the Trade Ministry…

(TLU/MTI) — The Trade Licence Unit (TLU) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry wishes to advise members of the public, particularly all Registered Foreign Used Car Dealers, Individual Importers and other stakeholders of the following:

1.   The expiry date of all Import Licences issued in 2021 will be December 31, 2021; and

2.   The TLU will not be revalidating Import Licences issued in 2021 to a date in 2022 for used right hand drive motor vehicles (sedans, station wagons and Sports Utility Vehicles) which arrive after December 31, 2021.

The public is reminded that with effect from January 1, 2021, the permissible age for the import of used right hand drive motor vehicles (sedans, station wagons and Sports Utility Vehicles) is three years from the year of manufacture.
