Electricity has been restored and water distribution resumed to those areas across the country badly affected by the weather system last week, which affected infrastructure belonging to the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) and the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
According to an update from the Ministry of Public Utilities, as of 10:00 am today, September 6th, all outages relating to the September 3rd adverse weather system, have substantially been restored.
“For T&TEC, a total of 421 small and large outages throughout the Commission’s Transmission and Distribution network have been restored, with less than 15 individual reports still outstanding which are being addressed at this time,” the Ministry reports.
“In the case of WASA, the operations of its 32 affected water treatment facilities have also been restored. Customers are reminded that it may take up to 24 hours for service to be normalised across the distribution grid,” the Ministry noted.
It added: “While the service disruptions were unavoidable, both WASA and T&TEC are mindful of their mandate and obligations to the citizens. Their commitment to provide safe and reliable utility services remains paramount. The Ministry of Public Utilities expresses its gratitude to all citizens for their patience over the last days.”
The advisory from the Ministry also included a commendation from Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales MP, “to all the employees of WASA, TTEC and The Meteorological Services Division for their hard work and commitment to duty, displayed in stabilizing and restoring the availability of utility services to the citizens.”
