MOE: No disruptions during SEA exams

The Ministry of Education says the Secondary Entrance Assessment was conducted with no disruptions. In a press release issued this afternoon, the Minister of Education thanked the staff and support staff of the Ministry for their efforts saying “After monitoring the day’s operations, I am happy to report that the examination was implemented without any major disruptions.” The Ministry of Education says it expects that the SEA 2022 results will be available for collection during the first week of July, 2022.

The Ministry of Education is pleased to report that the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) was conducted over five hundred centres across Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday 31st March, 2022 without any disruptions.   

Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Education, thanks the staff and support staff of the Ministry for their efforts; “After monitoring the day’s operations, I am happy to report that the examination was implemented without any major disruptions.”   

This year, nineteen thousand one hundred and eighty-nine (19,189) students registered to write the examination. There were nine thousand, nine hundred and one (9,901) males and nine thousand, two hundred and eighty-eight (9,288) females. In Trinidad, eighteen thousand, two hundred and twelve (18,212) candidates registered, while nine hundred and eighty-six (986) candidates registered in Tobago. 

The initial data provided showed that a total of one hundred and nine-three (193) students in Trinidad did not write the exams as planned today. Reports from principals indicate that forty-four (44) of those candidates were absent due to Covid-19 related reasons.    

Those students who registered for, but were not able to write the examination will be allowed to sit the make-up examination on Thursday April 21st, 2022.   

Dr. The Honourouble Nyan Gadsby-Dolly has expressed gratitude to the approximately three thousand four hundred (3,400) Ministry of Education staff and all external stakeholders who played a role in the successful conduct of the examination. “The task to successfully manage five hundred and fifty-two (552) centres for the SEA Examination is mammoth. The Ministry of Education is extremely grateful for the support received from our students, parents, principals, teachers, invigilators, support and janitorial staff, security staff, school supervisors, staff of the DERE, Examination and Curriculum Divisons and other MOE staff, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), MTS and other agencies.”   

The Ministry of Education also continues to support Special Needs Students through the provision of concessions. This year four hundred and thirty-six (436) candidates received concessions in Trinidad and four (4) in Tobago. These candidates were afforded concessions such as extra time, Sign Language Interpretation, large print or Braille scripts, preferential seating, provision of a writer or reader; among other forms of academic support. 

The Ministry of Education expects that the SEA 2022 results will be available for collection during the first week of July, 2022. Further information on the exact date will be released closer to that time. 

The Ministry congratulates all SEA students on the achievement of this important milestone.
