Oropouche East MP accuses National Security Minister of politicising Police and Prison Services. Dr Roodal Moonilal is calling on Fitzgerald Hinds to apologise for “politicking” two national institutions. Details follow in this press release from the MP:
The incompetent Fitzgerald Hinds has again compromised independent national institutions by making a politically partisan address while at a formal function with the heads of these agencies.
Hinds delivered a flamingly biased and opinionated speech at an official State event in which he sat between the leaders of the Prisons Services and Police Service.
Even by Hinds’ pathetically low standards and well-known lack of decorum, this was a gross example of impropriety and misconduct, since it brought two vital enforcement agencies into the political realm.
The Prisons and Police Services are critical institutions of law and order, and must be respected as fiercely independent and politically impartial.
Hinds’ political bleating is the latest coarse example of the PNM Government undermining and destabilising crucial non-partisan agencies.
This latest scandal confirms that the Rowley Government is intent on undermining all such agencies and making them subordinate to an authoritarian PNM regime.
On behalf of all patriotic citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, I unreservedly condemn Hinds for his pure politicking and blatant attempt to damage and demoralise these two vital national institutions.
I call upon him to apologise to both leaders and to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Failure to do so would confirm his ill intent to subvert and weaken the country’s law enforcement organisations.
