Opposition Member of Parliament for Oropouche East, Dr Roodal Moonilal, is expected to provide evidence for what he said, was Government’s use of pandemic funds to campaign, in his contribution to the Mid-Year Review.
“We are keeping a hawk’s eye view on the expenditure because as we know, the government has been using the COVID pandemic as a ruse to pad up monies here and there and to use it for political objectives,” Moonilal told Guardian Media outside the Red House today, moments before the debate began.
“Today, I would expose a critical area in my speech—the use of pandemic money for campaigning. I have the evidence with me, so I intend to use that today and show how the government has been using millions of dollars simply for election campaigning.”
Moonilal said the government was “hiding behind COVID” by its reduction of speaking times for MPs and by the still active Public Health Regulations to prevent citizens from mobilising against them.
