Moriah man gets bail on charge of sexual abuse of boy

A Moriah man has appeared before a Scarborough Magistrate, charged with sexual penetration of a minor, between the period September 2018 and November 2018.

The 33-year-old accused, was charged with the offence when he appeared before Magistrate Debby Ann Bassaw, in the Scarborough Magistrates’ First Court, on Tuesday 7th December, 2021.

He was granted $70,000 bail with a surety.

The accused was also ordered to stay away from the boy, refrain from communicating with the child by any means and is to report to the Moriah Police Station once per week.

The child’s mother reported to police that she took him to seek medical attention in September 2021, as a result of bedwetting and problems passing stool.

She said when she questioned him, he stated a man known to him, played with his penis and touched him on his buttocks.

An investigation was launched into the incident which led to the accused being arrested on Saturday 4th December, 2021 and charged for the offence on that same date.

Investigations were supervised by W/Supt. Claire Guy-Alleyne, ASP (Ag.) Roberts and Sgt. Miller of the Child Protection Unit.
