Moruga man charged with killing gardener

Five months after Moruga gardener Damien Mollineau was murdered, a 25-year-old villager has appeared in court charged with his murder.

Kevin Coker, of Edward Trace, Moruga appeared via video link before Princes Town magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine yesterday.

Coker, who gave himself up to officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region 3 last Monday,was charged by Police Constable Gaffar.

Mollineau, 40, also of Edward Trace, was shot multiple times by a lone gunman on Boxing Day 2019 while at his garden which is not far from where he lived with his wife and children.

Mollineau was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility where he died.

Investigations into his murder were supervised by Insps Corrie and Persad of the HBI Region 3.

Coker was charged on Saturday on the advice of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul.

Sgt Toussaint prosecuted in the matter while Coker was represented by attorney Dane Halls.

The matter was adjourned to June 23.
