The former works minister said the government has compromised the safety of users of the Mosquito Creek, with very dire consequences.

Former Works and Transport Minister Dr Suruj Rambachan said yesterday’s accident along Mosquito Creek was a disaster waiting to happen.

In a press release, Dr Rambachan said the recently opened section along the Creek was opened without any shoulder, and very narrow lanes. He says it is an example of the carelessness of the current government in treating with the lives and safety of citizens.

Dr Rambachan says when this section of the highway was opened, he cautioned works minister Rohan Sinanan that what he had opened was a dangerous threat to the safety of users. According to the former minister, prior to Thursday’s accident, there have been small accidents, including vehicles that have hit the railing.

The former minister said in the government’s haste to prove that they are efficient, they have compromised the safety of users with very dire consequences.

Yesterday, a father and a son were injured on the Mosquito Creek after their car collided with a truck.
