A close male relative of a 53-year-old woman who was found dead in a house in Princes Town on Tuesday has been detained by the police.

Police said Karen Rauseo of Ramdhanie Trace, Indian Walk, and her common-law husband only began renting the house at Buen Intento Road from Monday night. Her husband told police that around 5 am yesterday, he left her home and went to work.  He said he returned home around 5:45 pm and found Rauseo on the floor of the kitchen bleeding from her ears and mouth.

Guardian Media understands that when the police arrived at the scene, they observed maggots crawling on Rauseo’s body.  The district medical officer also observed marks of violence on her body.

The body was taken to Forensic Science Centre this morning for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the 59-year-old male relative is assisting police with their investigations.

Homicide detectives, Princes Town and other Southern Division officers visited the scene.

Investigations are continuing.
