The North Central Regional Health Authority is currently investigating the circumstances around the death of a COVID-19 patient receiving treatment at the Arima General Hospital.
On Sunday, the man fell to his death from the third floor of the hospital.
According to a release from the NCRHA chief executive officer Davlin Thomas, the man was admitted on September 25 and was responding positively to treatment. He was swabbed upon admission and on Saturday was advised of the result. At that time he was not confused, delirious or showed signs of depression.
“The next of kin has been advised of his passing as well as his COVID-19 status, and contact tracing protocols were initiated to contain further spread of the disease. NCRHA extends our deepest condolences to the family and an investigation has been launched into the incident,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
