In a bid to boost the Ministry of Health’s efforts (MOH) in leading the national fight against the COVID-19 virus, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) recently distributed to four Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) important medical supplies from the national disaster strategic reserves.

An official release from the ODPM notes the distribution took place on November 24th and 26th, 2021 at the ODPM’s Warehouse.

According to ODPM release, the Eastern, North Central, North-West and South-West RHAs benefitted from the distribution of medical supplies.  The ODPM handed over 1,600 biohazard bags, 400 body bags, 230 medical grade cots, 150 commodes, and three wheelchairs.

The ODPM’s Operations Manager, Dennis Marcelle, who was present for the supplies hand-over to the RHAs, reiterated the ODPM’s commitment to disaster risk reduction by “strengthening the capabilities of national agencies for multi-hazard situations”.

Health Ministry officials in receipt of the supplies indicated the items were timely and will bolster the RHAs’ abilities to respond more effectively to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, as well as to provide comfort to the general patient population.
