One man was arrested and a firearm and ammunition seized during
an anti-crime exercise in Dundonald Hill and Cocorite yesterday.
During the period 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, officers attached to the Western Division Task Force, carried out the exercise which was
coordinated by Snr Supt Thompson, and executed by Sgt Carmona,
Cpls Hunte, Khan and included PCs Clement, Hollingsworth, Dennis,
Charles, Frith, Christopher, Charles and WPC Noreiga.
According to police reports, The officers went to Upper Freedom Street, Cocorite, and based on information received and while attempting to surround a concrete
house, observed a known offender with a knapsack on his back. The
offender on seeing the officers ran and jumped over a galvanise fence.
Officers gave chase and the suspect dropped the knapsack while
running into nearby bushes.
The knapsack was retrieved and one mini Draco with a loaded
magazine containing 35 rounds of 7.62 ammunition was seized.
Further checks for the offender prove futile.
The officers then entered the same house where another man, a known
offender, was in possession of one Glock 17 pistol loaded with 14
rounds of 9mm ammunition, a camouflage jacket, rubber gloves and
a mask. The items were seized. The offender was arrested.
