One man was killed and two wounded during a police-involved shooting along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway on Monday night just after the Piarco intersection.
The dead man has been identified as Keith Wilson of St Helena. The wounded were also identified and said to be from Building 125, Unit D, 5th Avenue Extention, Oropune and a 19-year-old from Oropune Gardens.
According to a police report, around 8:25 pm PC Williams in the company PC Beepath and PC Modeste were patrolling Arouca when they attempted to stop a Nissan Tiida.
The driver failed to stop and a chase ensued.
The vehicle eventually stopped on the highway and two men came out and allegedly shot at the officers, following which the police shot back.
The men ran into the nearby bushes and escaped. Police say three men were left in the vehicle with gunshot wounds. They were taken for medical attention and Wilson was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other two men were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where they were treated and warded.
Checks were made for the other two suspects with the assistance of Air Support, K9, and other officers from several police units but the other suspects were not found.
