Drugs seized by the polie during an anti-crime exercise in Arima.

One man was killed and two teenagers injured by police in two separate incidents, which also saw the arrest of nine persons for possession of arms, ammunition and drugs.

In the latest incident, two teenagers, ages 18 and 19 were shot and wounded by police officers in Petit Valley on Wednesday evening.

According to a police report, at about 6.30 pm one of the teens was seen walking along Humming Bird Circular, off Simeon Road, with a firearm in his waist.

Residents called the police and a team of officers from the Four Roads Police Station’s CID, Inter Agency Task Force and the Joint Police and Army patrol responded.

Police said the teens opened fire on the officers forcing a police officer to return fire.

They subsequently escaped behind a nearby house.

The officers searched a river where they saw both suspects walking up from the river onto a concrete platform.

When the officers called out to them, one of the suspects pointed a gun at the officers.

Police returned fire shooting both suspects.

One was shot in the waist and arm while the other was shot in the buttocks and waist.

They were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they were being treated.

Police said a black and silver pistol with five rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene.

And in Arima one man was killed and nine others arrested as police seized a number of arms, ammunition and drugs in Arima on Wednesday.

The anti-crime exercise was supervised by Cpls Gordon and Ali and included officers assigned to the Cumuto Police, La Horquetta Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Maloney CID, Malabar Police Station and K-9 Unit conducted in Northern Division.

Police reports said the officers executed a search warrant at Block 3-5, Wallerfield, Arima where, with the assistance of the K-9 unit, found approximately 19 kilogrammes of marijuana.

Six persons were arrested for possession of cannabis. Four of those held were illegal Venezuelans.

The officers then proceeded to Balisier Road, Wallerfield, where they executed another warrant.

However, reports said when officers arrived they saw three men, one of whom was known to them.

The men opened fire on the officers as they ran off but the officers returned fire.

Two of the men were captured by the officers a short while later, while a third was seen lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered two assault rifles along with 29 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 26 rounds .45 ammunition, 25 rounds .40 ammunition and 86 rounds 7.62 ammunition on the scene along with approximately 150 marijuana trees, a desert storm camouflage bulletproof vest, one ski-mask and a firearm sling.
