A 27-year-old man was shot and wounded on Tuesday night, seconds after he walked out of his home in St James.

According to a police report, at about 8.45 pm, Shaquille Murphy had just exited his home at #71 Dundonald Hill, when five masked gunmen approached him and opened fire. He was shot several times about the body.

Murphy was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was treated.

A motive is yet to be established for the shooting, however, police believe it is part of the ongoing gang rivalry in the area.

Over the past months there has been several shootings and murders recorded in the said area.

Police officers have assured residents that there will be an increase in mobile patrols.

Acting Cpl Denoon is continuing enquiries.
