On Tuesday morning, a screenshot taken from a Google search on COVID-19 deaths around the world showed Trinidad and Tobago as having recorded 615 deaths.
The screenshot and similar posts quickly went viral on social media, with many people questioning the sudden massive increase in deaths.
But according to Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, that information is “completely false.”
Deyalsingh spoke briefly to Guardian Media shortly before noon on Tuesday. He said he was in a meeting as the Ministry of Health was addressing the incorrect statistic.
To date, T&T has recorded 65 deaths.
According to Google, the data being displayed is gathered from several different sites, including Wikipedia, Government health Ministries, the New York Times, and other authoritative sources.
