Grandparents across the country are being encouraged to sign up for a special webinar to help improve and enhance their grandparenting skills, which is being hosted by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services (MSDFS) next Wednesday.
The online Grandparenting Workshop is the Ministry’s first ever Virtual Parenting Programme, which will target Grandparents. It is being hosted by the Ministry’s National Family Services Division on Wednesday November 10th, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The Webinar also will be streamed live on the Ministry’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
“The webinar will help to support and equip grandparents with the necessary knowledge and skills, to make responsible decisions regarding the safety and well-being of grandchildren and other children under their care,” an advisory from the Ministry explains.
Three main topics to be covered include: “Juggling Three Generations: The Balancing Act”; “Intergenerational Gaps, Managing Tensions, Communications, Gender Socialization”; and “Exploring Your Rights as a Grandparent: Legal and Financial issues”.
Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator Donna Cox, will officially launch the webinar, which will include presentations by representatives from the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, Families in Action, and the University of the West Indies Institute of Gender and Development Studies.
To register, persons should visit the Ministry’s website at www.social.gov.tt.
