Point Fortin Desalination Plant.

Operations at the Desalination Plant at Point Fortin are back to normal, as of 2:00 p.m. on Monday June 8th, 2020.

According to a release issued by the Water and Sewerage Authority, the facility was back up to full production levels of 5.6 million gallons per day, by 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday June 9th, 2020.

WASA explains that repair work was carried out to the plant’s underground electrical cable system, by Seven Seas Water (Trinidad) Unlimited, which owns and operates the facility.

Customers in parts of Point Fortin and La Brea, served by the Point Fortin Desalination Plant were without a steady supply while the facility underwent repairs.

Areas which were affected included: Point Fortin, Parrylands, Cochrane, Mahaica, Lot 10, Harriman Park, New Village, Salazar Trace, Vance River, Merrimac, Vessigny and La Brea (up to the Pitch Lake).

WASA assures that pipe-borne water supply schedules to affected customers are expected to normalize within 24 hours, thereafter.
