Farmers of Palmyra are afraid to tend to their crops after a man was shot dead near their agricultural fields.

The murder is believed to have occurred around midnight on Sunday but it was only around 9 am yesterday that the body was found.

It bore what appeared to be stab wounds to the upper torso and gunshot wounds to the head.

A farmer, who requested anonymity, said a black vehicle was seen speeding out of Suzanna Trace, off the Palmyra Main Road where former Caroni workers now plant agricultural lands.

Officers from San Fernando CID and Homicide Region III detectives including Supt Jackman, ASP Ramoutar, Insp Maharaj and Insp Phillip visited the area.

Residents told police the victim was not known to them but an ID card was found in his pants pocket bearing an address in Gasparillo.

Up to late yesterday, the man was not identified.

Anyone with information can contact Homicide Region III at 652-0495, Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477) or send information to Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith by texting 482-GARY (4279), or to the TTPS app.
