The Presentation of the 2020/2021 Budget in Parliament today was preceded by glowing tributes for former Member of Parliament for La Brea Fitzgerald Jeffrey, and Parliament Clerk Sheranne Samuel.

Tributes were made by both Government and Opposition members, and House Speaker, Bridgid Annisette-George.

Fitzgerald Jeffrey served as an MP under the PNM government from 2007 to 2010. He was appointed as a High Commissioner to Jamaica from 2016 until 2018.

The 69-year-old former Parliamentarian died on September 19, 2020, at the Point Fortin Hospital.

Paying tribute to Jeffrey, current MP for La Brea, Stephen Mc Clashie, said Jeffrey was a man of integrity, who worked in service of the people.

Opposition MP for Couva South, Rudranath Indarsingh, said Jeffrey was a committed father and dedicated educator.

Sheranne Samuel died on September 27 after suddenly falling ill. She was a procedural clerk assistant at the Parliament, and a former member of the Rotary Club of St Augustine.

Government MP Fitzgerald Hinds and Opposition MP Dr Lackram Bodoe both paid tribute to Samuel, who was 34 years old at the time of her passing.

Speaker Annisette-George said Samuel was a person who sought excellence for herself, and also encouraged others to strive for academic excellence.
