The 21-year-old son of a pastor from central Trinidad has been released on $100,000 bail after being charged with armed robbery.

Keidon Patrick, of Balmain, Couva, pleaded not guilty to the offence and was granted bail during a virtual hearing before Magistrate Christine Charles on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, Patrick, whose father is a pastor at a church in Carapichaima, was arrested after allegedly robbing a garden supply store in Couva of $1,000.

Police prosecutors initially objected to bail for Patrick but were challenged by his lawyer Bhimal Maharajh.

Maharajh claimed that Patrick only had two convictions for marijuana possession from 2017 and 2018 and had been fined both times. Maharajh noted that his client had good community ties as he serves as a “shepherd” in his father’s church, by assisting during services.

In granting, Patrick bail, Charles ordered him to refrain from contacting the owner of the business and to report to police once weekly for the duration of his case.

Patrick is expected to reappear in court on July 21.
