The Penal Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) is now closed to members of the public after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Guardian Media understands that spraying of the building and corporation vehicles was undertaken this morning.

Chairman Dr Allen Sammy said the employee was in the Corporation’s offices up to Friday.  He said sanitation began on Wednesday after they received word that the employee had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Dr Sammy said over the weekend, a municipal officer attached to the sub-officer near the market also tested positive. He said no other employees have been put into quarantine at this time.

In an official notice, PDRC CEO Betty Ramdass-Ali informed the public that commencing Thursday 15 April 2021, and for the next three weeks, they should avoid coming to the office in light of the pandemic.  Instead, she advised members of the public to utilise the PDRC’s telephone contact numbers, email, Facebook page and website to make inquiries, complaints or communicate to access their services.

“If it does become necessary to visit the corporation, all persons will be required to observe our public health protocols on entry such as temperature testing, hand sanitising and washing station and wearing of masks,” Ramdass-Ali advised.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in order to protect our staff and others, persons displaying symptoms of COVID 19 will be required to immediately demit the corporation while we call the Ministry of Health hotline on your behalf, if you so require,” she added.

The PDRC CEO reminded the public to take all necessary preventative measures and regulations, as advised by the Health Ministry, to mitigate the spread of the virus.
