The Chairman of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC), Dr Allen Sammy, has confirmed the Corporation has received funding from the Central Government to the tune of $105,000.
In a news release, Dr Sammy says the disbursement followed recent media reports which highlighted that several key pieces of equipment in the Corporation—cesspit emptier trucks, backhoes, rollers and brush cutters, among others—”were lying idle, owing to the absence of a diesel supply”.
“After exchanges of correspondence with Minister Colm Imbert (December 3rd, 2021), and the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley (January 20th, 2022), on the failure of the state to release funds for the purchase of diesel at the Penal Debe Regional Corporation, a cheque in the sum of $ 105,000 was received on February 8th, 2022, to meet this need and associated vehicle maintenance expenses,” the release stated.
