The Penal Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) is expecting to deliver some 2.34 million gallons of water by the end of April, to homes in the Region which are not serviced by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

A release from the Corporation says it has delivered 420,000 gallons of water to 712 homes between January 31st and February 11th, 2022, using 12 contracted trucks operating in their respective designated areas. The programme is scheduled to end after 54 delivery days on Wednesday 27th April 2022.

“Each household receives 400 gallons with a repeat follow-up every sixth working day on average,” the PDRC reports.  “The daily target is 43,200 gallons.  If deliveries continue on schedule, it is expected that 2.34 million gallons of water will be delivered by April 27th.”

The Corporation notes residents have learned to adopt strict water rationing and other survival strategies over the past generations, because of the water situation in the Region.

The PDRC points out that it has been pleading with WASA to attempt new strategies for the provision of water in the Penal/Debe Region, “including reviving old water wells, digging new ones, building water catchment dams and detention ponds.”
